Descripció
Pot arribar a una talla de 25 mm. Cos de secció quadrangular. La seva coloració general és groguenc pàl·lid amb taques marrons fosques a tot el cos; el seu cos es va enfosquint a mesura que creix l’animal. Freqüentment hi ha una taca marró més fosca just darrere de cada rinòfor. El vel cefàlic té 6 digitacions curtes. Rinòfors amb curtes prolongacions allargades dirigides obliquament cap endavant; beina rinofórica elevada i lleugerament eixamplada en el seu marge superior. Fins a 5 apèndixs branquials ramificats a cada costat del dors i de mida desigual.
Biologia
Viu en fons durs, des la zona intermareal a les costes atlàntiques fins a més de 100 m de profunditat. A l’Atlàntic s’alimenta del cnidari Alcyonium digitatum mentre que a la Mediterrània s’ha observat sobre gorgònies com Paramuricea clavata i Eunicella singularis. La posta és un cordó blanc una mica fistonat i enrotllat en espiral de 4-5 voltes amb ous molt petits de 80-90 micres.
Etimologia
- Duvaucelia. En honor d’Alfred Duvaucel (1792-1824), fill del matrimoni d’Anne-Marie Duvaucel amb el baró de Cuvier, amb qui va estar a l’India i a Sumatra recol·lectant objectes d’història natural pel Museu de Paris fins la seva mort, a Java, a l’edat de 31 anys.

Distribució
Viu a les costes europees des de Noruega fins a la Península Ibèrica. També a la Mediterrània occidental i al mar Egeu. S’ha registrat a la costa atlàntica americana com a espècie no indígena. A les costes catalanes s’ha citat a Port de la Selva i a caladors d’arrossegament comercial a prop de Lloret i Blanes.

Espècies semblants
Marionia blainvillea, els juvenils son semblants, però tenen més ramificacions branquials a la vora del dors, el qual és fistonat, i no llis com en D.plebeia.
