Classification provided by the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). [1342955<\/a>]<\/p><\/div>Taxonomic note:<\/strong>\u00a0Originally described as Bulla (Cylichna) jeffreysi<\/em> by Weinkauff (1866), based on material previously confused with other species of the genus Bulla<\/em>. Subsequently, Monterosato (1884) erected the genus Roxaniella<\/em> for this species; however, in much of the contemporary literature it has been treated as Atys jeffreysi<\/em>, considering Roxaniella<\/em> as a synonym or subgenus of Atys<\/em> (Oskars et al<\/em>., 2017). Recent studies based on molecular phylogeny have demonstrated that Mediterranean species traditionally assigned to Atys<\/em> do not form a monophyletic group, suggesting affinities with different Indo-Pacific lineages and highlighting the taxonomic instability of the group (Oskars et al<\/em>., 2017, 2019). In this context, the use of Roxaniella<\/em> has been reinstated in recent works on the phylogeny of Haminoeidae sensu lato (Oskars et al<\/em>., 2019), although its acceptance is not yet universal.<\/p>\n
