Classification provided by the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). [1791544<\/a>]<\/p><\/div>Taxonomic Note:<\/strong>\u00a0Fern\u00e1ndez-Vilert et al. (2024) conducted a series of genetic analysis on a broad sample of sea slugs from the family\u00a0Discodorididae<\/em>\u00a0and, among many other novel and interesting findings, observed that\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em> Ortea, 1979, from northwestern and northeastern Spain, clustered genetically with Carminodoris boucheti<\/em>\u00a0Ortea, 1979, from northeastern Spain. Previous morphological studies had already suggested placing\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0in the genus\u00a0Rostanga<\/em>\u00a0due to its elongated, slender lateral radular teeth, a character traditionally used to identify\u00a0Rostanga<\/em>\u00a0species (Rudman & Avern 1989; Dayrat & Gosliner 2005; Dayrat 2011). Additionally, like other species of\u00a0Rostanga<\/em>,\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Carminodoris boucheti<\/em>\u00a0possess caryophyllidia tubercles, a feature absent in the genus\u00a0Discodoris<\/em>\u00a0(Ortea et al. 2014). However, the labial cuticle of\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0is smooth, whereas it is armed with jaw elements in both\u00a0Rostanga<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Discodoris<\/em>\u00a0(Ortea et al. 2014), except for\u00a0Rostanga elandsia<\/em>, which has a smooth, unarmed jaw (Garovoy et al. 2001). For this reason, some authors retained\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0Discodoris<\/em>, pending further clarification (S\u00e1nchez-Tocino 2003; Cervera et al. 2004). Since both\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Carminodoris boucheti<\/em>\u00a0also cluster with the type species\u00a0Gargamella immaculata<\/em>, and given that\u00a0Carminodoris boucheti<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Gargamella<\/em>\u00a0share a smooth labial cuticle (Perrone & Doneddu 1996; Ortea et al. 2006), as previously noted for\u00a0Discodoris rosi<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Rostanga elandsia<\/em>, Fern\u00e1ndez-Vilert et al. (2024) transferred these species to\u00a0Gargamella<\/em>, establishing the new combinations\u00a0Gargamella boucheti<\/em>,\u00a0Gargamella elandsia<\/em>, and\u00a0Gargamella rosi<\/em>.<\/p>\n
