They are also generally known under the name of Doridaceans.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size:10pt;\" class=\"aligncenter\"><div id=\"featured-img-id\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/opistobranquis.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/peltodoris-atromaculata-19.jpg?w=900&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Peltodoris atromaculata @ Costa Brava, Spain by Enric Madrenas\" \/><\/div><center><em>Peltodoris atromaculata @ Costa Brava, Spain by Enric Madrenas<\/em> by Enric Madrenas<\/center><\/span><p><\/p><\/h5>\n<p>These sea slugs are characterized by having an elongated or flattened body where it is easy to differentiate the notum or back from the flanks of the body. The rhinophores could be contractile or they can be completely retracted into the head. The back of the animal can be smooth or it can be adorned with tubercles of different shaped: rounded, conical, digitiform, etc. The species of certain genuses as <em>Jorunna<\/em>, <em>Taringa<\/em> or <em>Rostanga<\/em> have spiculated tubercles that surround it forming a crown and that are known as caryophyllid tubercles.<\/p>\n<p>The gill leaves surround the anal tubercle and are located in the posterior region of the back. Certain\u00a0groups can contract the gills when they feel threatened (fanerobranchs) or they can fully retract them into\u00a0the body (cryptobranchs).<\/p>\n<p>Doridida feeding is very specific, they are all carnivores, most feed on sponges but there are some species that feed on bryozoans.<\/p>\n<p>Within Doridida there are two groups with Infraorder category, the <strong>Doridoidei<\/strong>, where\u00a0most species belong, and <strong>Bathydoridoidei<\/strong>, with only two genus and very few species of deep, cold waters.<\/p>\n<p>The taxonomy of Doridida proposed by Bouchet et al.
