Descripción
Los especímenes adultos pueden alcanzar unos 30 mm de longitud. Cuerpo estrecho, de color blanquecino o amarillento translúcido, nunca con pigmentación negruzca ni de color naranja homogéneo. A veces con pequeñas marcas blancas por todo el cuerpo, pie y cerata. Algunos especímenes tienen manchas dorsales naranja rojizo muy características que nunca cubren la cola. Los especímenes adriáticos son a menudo más pequeños y muestran un tono azulado que cubre los cerata, los rinóforos y los tentáculos orales dándole al animal un aspecto azulado; hasta el momento no se han encontrado ejemplares con manchas dorsales rojizas en el Adriático. Cerata del color del cuerpo, con los extremos progresivamente blanquecinos, pero nunca formando un anillo subapical de color rosa. Los cerata son apuntados en su extremo y bastante inflados en la base, los más grandes en posición central y están dispuestos en grupos. La glándula digestiva interior es de de color grisáceo o marrón, y puede verse por transparencia. Los rinóforos son lisos y relativamente largos, del color del cuerpo, comúnmente cubiertos con puntos blancos relativamente densos salpicados de pequeñas inserciones de pigmento marrón amarillento en algunos ejemplares, pero sin formar anillos verdaderos. Los tentáculos orales son lisos, mucho más cortos que los rinóforos, pero de coloración similar. Los ojos son ligeramente visibles en la base de los rinóforos. Pie bastante ancho, de color blanco translúcido, sin palpos propodiales en la parte frontal y terminado en una cola apuntada, a menudo con una línea blanca característica, a veces discontinua o punteada, a lo largo de los bordes.
Biología
Se alimenta de hidrarios de los géneros Nemertesia, Obelia y Tubularia. Los ejemplares mediterráneos habían sido tradicionalmente confundidos con la especie atlántica Eubranchus tricolor, con la que tienen diferencias morfológicas evidentes. El reciente trabajo de Korshunova et al (2020) ha permitido aclarar esta situación.
Etimología
- Linensis. De «linense», denominación de los habitantes de la población de La Línea de La Concepción, Cádiz, España en la frontera con Gibraltar.
Distribución
Se encuentra básicamente en el Atlántico oriental, de Gibraltar a Suecia y el sur de Noruega, y en el Mediterráneo, donde hay citas en España, Francia e Italia, también en el Adriático. En la Península Ibérica sólo se ha reportado en las costas atlánticas de Andalucía y en Cataluña, en las barras submarinas de Mataró.
