Comprende un conjunto muy diverso de babosas marinas caracterizado por una extraordinaria variedad de formas corporales y de estructuras dorsales y laterales especializadas. A diferencia de los nudibranquios dorid\u00e1ceos, que poseen una caracter\u00edstica corona o c\u00edrculo de branquias secundarias alrededor del ano, los cladobranquios presentan una gran diversidad de estructuras respiratorias y sensoriales, entre ellas cerata, procesos dorsales ramificados y otros ap\u00e9ndices especializados.<\/p>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size:10pt;\" class=\"aligncenter\"><div id=\"featured-img-id\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/opistobranquis.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Tritonia-striata-by-Miquel-Pontes-MPG_2330.jpg?w=900&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Candiella striata by Miquel Pontes\" \/><\/div><center><em>Candiella striata<\/em> por Pontes, Miquel<\/center><\/span><p><\/p><\/h5>\n<p>El nombre Cladobranchia fue introducido por Willan y Morton (1984) para un grupo importante de nudibranquios que inclu\u00eda los tradicionales linajes de ae\u00f3lidos, armin\u00e1ceos y dendronot\u00e1ceos. El nombre hace referencia a las estructuras respiratorias ramificadas o de otro modo diferenciadas que caracterizan a muchos miembros del grupo. Posteriormente, Cladobranchia se consolid\u00f3 como uno de los dos principales linajes evolutivos de Nudibranchia, junto con el linaje dorid\u00e1ceo, tradicionalmente denominado Anthobranchia y posteriormente Doridina.<\/p>\n<p>Cladobranchia presenta una enorme diversidad morfol\u00f3gica. Muchas especies poseen ap\u00e9ndices dorsales especializados que intervienen en la respiraci\u00f3n, la defensa, la alimentaci\u00f3n o las funciones sensoriales. Los nudibranquios ae\u00f3lidos se caracterizan t\u00edpicamente por numerosos cerata distribuidos por la superficie dorsal. Estas estructuras contienen prolongaciones de la gl\u00e1ndula digestiva y, en muchas especies, incorporan estructuras defensivas especializadas denominadas cnidosacos. Esta extraordinaria diversidad morfol\u00f3gica refleja la extensa radiaci\u00f3n evolutiva que ha experimentado el grupo.<\/p>\n<p>El concepto tradicional de Cladobranchia fue progresivamente refinado mediante estudios anat\u00f3micos comparativos y filogen\u00e9ticos. W\u00e4gele y Willan (2000) reconocieron Cladobranchia como una de las dos divisiones principales de Nudibranchia, junto con Anthobranchia. Los posteriores estudios moleculares y transcript\u00f3micos ampliaron considerablemente nuestro conocimiento de las relaciones dentro de Cladobranchia y demostraron que varios grupos tradicionales eran m\u00e1s complejos de lo que se hab\u00eda supuesto. Los datos moleculares tambi\u00e9n revelaron relaciones entre linajes que no siempre pod\u00edan inferirse \u00fanicamente a partir de la morfolog\u00eda externa.<\/p>\n<p>El desarrollo de la filogen\u00e9tica molecular durante el siglo XXI condujo, por tanto, a importantes cambios en la clasificaci\u00f3n superior de Cladobranchia. Los agrupamientos tradicionales basados en la forma corporal general, la disposici\u00f3n de los cerata o determinadas estructuras relacionadas con la alimentaci\u00f3n demostraron, en algunos casos, no corresponderse con linajes evolutivos monofil\u00e9ticos. Como consecuencia, se establecieron varias familias y superfamilias nuevas, mientras que otras fueron redefinidas o reorganizadas a medida que se acumulaban nuevas evidencias filogen\u00e9ticas.<\/p>\n<p>La clasificaci\u00f3n propuesta por Korshunova <em>et al.<\/em> (2025) represent\u00f3 una de las reorganizaciones m\u00e1s extensas de Cladobranchia realizadas en los \u00faltimos a\u00f1os. En su tratamiento, el orden Nudibranchia qued\u00f3 restringido esencialmente a Cladobranchia, mientras que los nudibranquios dorid\u00e1ceos fueron excluidos del orden y reconocidos como un orden separado, Doridida. Dentro de este concepto restringido de Nudibranchia, los autores reinstauraron varios sub\u00f3rdenes tradicionales, entre ellos Arminina, Tritonina, Dendronotina, Janolina y Aeolidina, y reorganizaron sustancialmente la taxonom\u00eda superior del grupo.<\/p>\n<p>Esta interpretaci\u00f3n fue posteriormente reconsiderada por Moles <em>et al.<\/em> (2026) en su an\u00e1lisis de la estabilidad taxon\u00f3mica de los heterobranquios marinos. Los autores argumentaron que las decisiones taxon\u00f3micas deben tener en cuenta no solo las relaciones filogen\u00e9ticas, sino tambi\u00e9n la capacidad de diagn\u00f3stico, la estabilidad nomenclatural, la compatibilidad con las clasificaciones existentes y los posibles efectos colaterales de los cambios taxon\u00f3micos. En el caso de Nudibranchia, concluyeron que restringir el nombre establecido Nudibranchia a Cladobranchia no proporciona una ventaja filogen\u00e9tica o pr\u00e1ctica suficiente que justifique sustituir su uso tradicional m\u00e1s amplio.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan el marco respaldado por Moles <em>et al.<\/em> (2026), Nudibranchia se mantiene, por tanto, en su sentido amplio e hist\u00f3ricamente establecido, incluyendo dos grandes linajes principales: Doridina y Cladobranchia. En consecuencia, Cladobranchia conserva su condici\u00f3n de gran linaje monofil\u00e9tico dentro de Nudibranchia, en lugar de considerarse equivalente a todo el orden. Esta disposici\u00f3n preserva tanto el nombre hist\u00f3ricamente establecido Nudibranchia como la identidad evolutiva bien sustentada de Cladobranchia.<\/p>\n<p>Las evidencias moleculares recientes son coherentes con este marco amplio. Los an\u00e1lisis mitogen\u00f3micos han recuperado Doridina y Cladobranchia como dos grandes ramas fuertemente sustentadas de Nudibranchia. Al mismo tiempo, las relaciones entre los principales linajes cladobranquios siguen siendo objeto de investigaci\u00f3n activa, y los estudios moleculares contin\u00faan revelando relaciones evolutivas anteriormente desconocidas y casos en los que los grupos tradicionales no son monofil\u00e9ticos.<\/p>\n<p>La diversidad de Cladobranchia se refleja en su clasificaci\u00f3n superior. El grupo incluye las superfamilias de ae\u00f3lidos Aeolidioidea, Apataoidea, Chudoidea, Embletonioidea, Fionoidea, Notaeolidioidea, Samloidea y Unidentioidea, junto con Arminoidea, Heterodoridoidea, Dendronotoidea, Proctonotoidea y Tritonioidea. Estos grupos abarcan una extraordinaria variedad de formas corporales y estrategias ecol\u00f3gicas, desde los ae\u00f3lidos provistos de cerata altamente especializados hasta las formas dendr\u00edticas de Dendronotoidea y Tritonioidea y las formas a menudo alargadas o aplanadas que se encuentran en Arminoidea y Proctonotoidea.<\/p>\n<p>Los nudibranquios ae\u00f3lidos son especialmente conocidos por sus cerata, que pueden actuar simult\u00e1neamente como estructuras respiratorias, prolongaciones de la gl\u00e1ndula digestiva y \u00f3rganos defensivos. Algunas especies son capaces de retener nematocistos funcionales obtenidos de sus presas cnidarias e incorporarlos a cnidosacos situados en los extremos de los cerata. Otros cladobranquios han desarrollado mecanismos defensivos y respiratorios diferentes, entre ellos elaborados procesos ramificados, formas corporales cr\u00edpticas, defensas qu\u00edmicas y asociaciones especializadas con determinadas presas.<\/p>\n<p>Cladobranchia presenta tambi\u00e9n una extraordinaria diversidad ecol\u00f3gica. Sus miembros habitan desde aguas costeras poco profundas y ambientes intermareales hasta comunidades m\u00e1s profundas de la plataforma y el talud continental. Muchas especies est\u00e1n estrechamente asociadas a determinados organismos presa, entre ellos hidrozoos, octocorales, otros cnidarios, esponjas y briozoos. Estas relaciones tr\u00f3ficas especializadas han desempe\u00f1ado un papel importante en la diversificaci\u00f3n de varios linajes cladobranquios y se reflejan con frecuencia en su morfolog\u00eda, comportamiento y ecolog\u00eda qu\u00edmica.<\/p>\n<p>La historia evolutiva de Cladobranchia constituye, por tanto, un excelente ejemplo de la complejidad de la diversificaci\u00f3n de los nudibranquios. La amplia variedad de arquitecturas corporales, estructuras respiratorias, estrategias alimentarias y mecanismos defensivos que se encuentran dentro del grupo no puede explicarse adecuadamente mediante una clasificaci\u00f3n basada \u00fanicamente en la morfolog\u00eda. La integraci\u00f3n de la anatom\u00eda comparada, la biolog\u00eda del desarrollo, la filogen\u00e9tica molecular y la informaci\u00f3n ecol\u00f3gica contin\u00faa revelando nuevas relaciones evolutivas y permite perfeccionar la clasificaci\u00f3n del grupo.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan la clasificaci\u00f3n adoptada aqu\u00ed, Cladobranchia se considera uno de los dos grandes linajes de Nudibranchia, junto con Doridina.
