Etimología

• Okenia. Dedicado al Prof. Dr. Ludwig Gilbert Lorenz Oken, (1779-1851), filósofo natural aleman, editor de la revista “Isis” y publicador del libro “Lehrbuch der Naturgeschichte”.
• Leachii. En honor al Dr. William Elford Leach, (1791-1836), “un naturalista con un entusiasmo indomable y consecuciones extraordinarias”. Zoólogo inglés, nacido en Plymouth, estudió medicina en Londres y en Edimburgo, donde obtuvo su doctorado en 1812, aunque en 1813 consiguió trabajo como “ayudante de bibliotecario” en el Museo Británico. Leach fue de los primeros en Gran Bretaña en tener contacto regular con zoólogos franceses después de la época de Napoleón y mantuvo correspondencia con de Blainville y Savigny en Francia y Bonelli en Italia. Después de su primera visita a París en 1815, conoció a Cuvier y de Lamarck y también se hizo amigo de otros profesores franceses. En el 1818 se reunió con de Férussac jr. y su amigo d’Orbigny. A su vuelta a Inglaterra fue seguido por Latreille y Cuvier y su familia.
