Biología

Etimología

• Weinkauffia. Dedicado al zoólogo y malacólogo alemán Heinrich Conrad Weinkauff (1817-1886).
• Macandrewii. Dedicado a Sir Robert McAndrew, Esq., (1802-1873), comerciante de frutas y malacólogo de Liverpool. En 1845 descubrió Calocaris macandreae Bell, 1846 en Loch Fyne y en Mull of Galloway. En 1849 adaptó uno de sus dos yates, el ‘Naiad’, con fines de dragado. Era buen amigo de Forbes, Barrett y Jeffreys. A pesar de que se le considera un pionero en el dragado de aguas profundas, sus barcos no podían dragar más allá de las 200 brazas. Su gran colección de conchas terminó en el Museo de Zoología de la Universidad de Cambridge.
