Descripción
La forma del cuerpo es alargada, ligeramente más estrecha en la parte anterior que en la posterior, aunque puede variar dependiendo de si el animal está quieto o deambulando. Los ejemplares pueden alcanzar hasta 3,5 mm de longitud. El cuerpo es de color pardo-oscuro con algún tono rojizo y todo el dorso está cubierto por líneas y manchas irregulares de color negro que se anastomosan. También se presentan una serie de puntuaciones blanquecinas pequeñas que se agrupan en la parte anterior del animal, a los lados y en el extremo posterior del dorso, al igual que en la base de la cola. A ambos lados de la región cefálica el animal presenta una zona sin pigmentación en la cual se pueden observar fácilmente los ojos. Debajo del borde posterior derecho del dorso sobresalen dos o tres pequeñas hojas branquiales, semitransparentes pero con algunas finas manchas negras. El pie presenta la misma coloración que el dorso aunque no tiene líneas negras y las manchas no se anastomosan. La cola presenta un área de color muy oscuro en el centro, bien delimitada y con los lados de ésta de un tono blanquecino y translúcido y algunas manchas oscuras en el borde.

Biología
No se conocen datos de la biología de esta especie. Las escasas citas de que dispone de ella indican que han aparecido al recolectar masas de diversas algas. Un ejemplar recolectado en Cadaqués se desplazaba con unos característicos movimientos de elongación suave seguidos de una contracción fuerte del cuerpo. Además, en movimiento la porción más posterior del dorso (cresta paleal) se mantiene algo elevada.

Etimología

• Runcina. Del Latín “runcina”, cepillo de carpintero, útil que se emplea para alisar la superficie de la madera.
• Brenkoae. En honor de Mirjana Hrs-Brenko (1935-) que estuvo empleada en la estación oceanográfica de Rovinj (Croacia) desde 1960, trabajando en la taxonomía, ecología y cultivo de los bivalvos.

Distribución
Esta especie, descrita originariamente por Thompson en 1980 en el Adriático para las aguas de la actual Croacia, sólo se ha recolectado posteriormente en Banyuls-sur Mer (Costa Brava francesa) y en Catalunya (Cadaqués y Tossa de Mar).
