Nota taxonómica: Las especies europeas atlánticas y mediterráneas de los géneros Hypselodoris y Chromodoris, después del análisis molecular de los Chromodorididae  de Johnson & Gosliner (2012, Traditional taxonomic groupings mask evolutionary history: A molecular phylogeny and new classification of the chromodorid nudibranchs. PLoS ONE 7(4): 33479) se han incluido en los géneros Felimare Ev. Marcus & Er. Marcus, 1967 (las especies de Hypselodoris) y Felimida Ev. Marcus, 1971 (las especies del género Chromodoris)

Sin embargo, un estudio reciente de Matsuda y Gosliner (2017) empleó análisis filogenéticos moleculares para investigar las relaciones dentro de la familia Chromodorididae. Su investigación reveló que Felimida edmundsi se agrupaba en un clado distinto junto con Felimida dalli y Doriprismatica sedna, el cual está mejor representado por el género Chromolaichma. Como consecuencia, Felimida edmundsi fue reclasificada como Chromolaichma edmundsi para reflejar estos hallazgos filogenéticos.

Descripción
El cuerpo es alargado y predominantemente azul grisáceo, salpicado de manchas negras irregulares y numerosas manchas anaranjadas circulares pequeñas, cada una rodeada por otras más pequeñas de color amarillo. El borde del manto es prominente, ligeramente plegado y adornado con un margen anaranjado interrumpido por manchas blancas, que corresponden a las formaciones subepidérmicas características de los cromodóridos. La superficie dorsal del manto está cubierta de numerosas protuberancias pequeñas. El pie se extiende más allá del borde posterior del manto y presenta una línea anaranjada distintiva a lo largo de su margen posterior. Los rinóforos perfoliados, de color azul grisáceo, tienen entre 17 y 19 láminas y están marcados por tres líneas anaranjadas prominentes que convergen en el ápice. El penacho branquial puede estar compuesto por hasta 30 branquias, cuyos extremos posteriores se curvan en espiral. Estas branquias son de color grisáceo translúcido y presentan una pigmentación anaranjada en los bordes interno y externo del raquis cerca de sus extremos. Tanto los orificios rinofóricos como los branquiales están bordeados de color anaranjado. La papila anal es azul grisácea, con el orificio de color crema.

Biología
Se desconocen detalles de su biologia, ya que és una especie difícil de ver. Algunos autores opinan que es la misma especie que Felimida ghanensis.

Etimología

• Chromolaichma. Derivado del griego “chróma” (χρώμα), “color”, y “aichmí” (αιχμή), “lanza”, con el significado de “punta de lanza colorida”, en referencia a los colores brillantes de los animales vivos y a la rádula alargada en forma de lanza; la letra “l” se añadió por eufonía.
• Edmundsi. En honor del Dr. Malcolm Edmunds, investigador británico sobre opistobranquios en la Universidad de Central Lancashire (Reino Unido).

Distribución
Se momento ha sido hallada en la Macaronesia (Islas Canarias, Madeira, Azores…) y en São Tomé y Príncipe.
