Descripción
Tamaño hasta 28 mm. El cuerpo es alto y con el animal en extensión, es algo más estrecho en la zona media entre los rinóforos y la branquia. Cuerpo de color marrón muy oscuro, a veces de tonos oliváceo, excepto manchas blanquecinas en todo el cuerpo que se corresponden con tubérculos cónicos de diferentes tamaños. Los márgenes del dorso están muy bien marcados alrededor de todo el animal y son también blanquecinos y tuberculata. Los rinóforos y las branquias son también marrones. A ambos lados de la branquia hay papilas redondeadas de color blanco. Rinóforos con láminas más claras. El pie es blanquecino.

Biología
Vive desde el intermareal hasta 20-30 m en zonas rocosas con briozoos los que se alimenta. La puesta es una cinta enrrollada en espiral de una vuelta y media con huevos blancos.

Etimología

  • Nothus. Del Latín «nothus», mestizo, mezclado, falso, ilegítimo (padre conocido).

Distribución
Básicamente una especie atlántica, Palio nothus tiene muy pocas citas en el Mediterráneo. La primera cita para el Mediterráneo corresponde a (Alen Petani, 2011) en la isla de Vir, Croacia. El hallazgo de Enric Madrenas en el Cap de Creus en 2015 creemos que es la primera cita para el Mediterráneo Occidental.
