Descripción
Cuerpo estrecho, de hasta 15 mm de longitud, color de base blanquecino o verdoso claro, a veces con un pigmento difuso del mismo color repartido por el cuerpo, pero nunca formando una banda blanca dorsal continua. Rinóforos lisos, aproximadamente dos veces más largos que los tentáculos orales, ambos con un pigmentado blanco difuso, a veces amarillento, pero nunca de un color anaranjado intenso. Hasta 10 filas de cerata, normalmente con cuatro filas ceratales anteriores. Cerata de color base negro o grisáceo oscuro (no de color verde) con una banda estrecha de puntos naranja o amarillenta, seguida de una banda ancha de color azul oscuro, seguida de una banda estrecha oscura y, hacia la parte superior de los cerata, una banda ancha de color naranja o amarillo. Las puntas de los cerata son transparentes con un cnidosac translúcido. Ano situado entre la cuarta y quinta fila de cerata del lado derecho. Pie estrecho con procesos angulares cortos.
Biología
Vive en zonas rocosas, relativamente poco profundas, a unos 10–20 m de profundidad. Se alimenta de hidrozoos Sertularella polyzonias, y posiblemente de otras especies de Sertularella. La puesta está formada por un cordón en espiral con un mínimo de 2 vueltas, o un cordón irregular, con más de 300 huevos de color blanco.
Etimología
- Trinchesia. En honor del Profesor Salvatore Trinchese (1836-1897), opistobranquiólogo italiano, Profesor de Zoologia en la Universidad de Bolonia y sucesor de Paolo Panceri como Profesor de Anatomía Comparada en la Universidad de Nápoles.
- Cuanensis. Por el Lough Cuan, nombre alternativo del Strangford Lough en Irlanda del Norte, donde se han realizado muchos estudios biológicos marinos en los últimos 100 años.
Distribución
Registros confirmados en Irlanda, Reino Unido y la costa occidental de Suecia. En el Mediterráneo se ha encontrado en la costa española (en Granada y en la Costa Brava de Girona) así como en Croacia. Debido a su reciente descripción y de que tradicionalmente se había confundido con T. caerulea, debería revisarse su rango de distribución (por ejemplo, Moro et al. (1995) identifican esta especie en Canarias -como Cuthona caerulea– ya que mencionan específicamente las bases negruzcas de los cerata, típicas de T.cuanensis).
Especies similares
Trinchesia caerulea, más grande, los extremos de los tentáculos orales y rinóforos de color amarillo claro, cerata con sólo una banda azul (más o menos evidente) y una banda amarilla. Pie con tentáculos propodiales evidentes.
