Descripción
Cuerpo alto y relativamente corto, de color blanco hialino con varias manchas rosadas en el dorso, las dos más grandes ubicadas justo detrás de cada rinóforo y otra mancha grande detrás de la branquia, en el área anal. El dorso es liso. Cabeza con velo con cuatro largos apéndices amarillos con puntas blancas. Hay de siete a nueve papilas cortas a cada lado del cuerpo, en el borde del notum. Branquia formada por cinco hojas blancas con puntas amarillas. Los tentáculos orales son cortos y de color blanco. Cola blanca con una línea amarilla.

Biología
Muy similar a Okenia amoenula, descrita por Bergh (1907) y Gosliner (1987) como color carmesí y amarillo, y MacNae (1957) como rojo ladrillo y amarillo, mientras que Okenia hispanica es rosa y amarillo. Ambas especies pueden distinguirse por la estructura del sistema genital y su anatomía radular. También se puede confundir con Okenia mediterranea, pero esta especie tiene una fila de tubérculos en el dorso en especímenes adultos, y también difieren en la anatomía radular.

Etimología

• Okenia. Dedicada al Prof. Dr. Ludwig Gilbert Lorenz Oken, (1779-1851), filósofo natural alemán, editor de la revista de historia natural “Isis” y que publicó el conocido “Lehrbuch der Naturgeschichte” (Libro de texto de historia natural). Su nomenclatura no es binomial, así que los nombres en el volumen 3 (la parte de zoología) no se utilizan a nivel de nomenclatura.
• Hispanica. De España. Hispania es el nombre latín de España.

Distribución
Esta especie fue descrita en base a un espécimen recolectado en el Mar de Alborán, sobre piedras a 60 m de profundidad.
