Descripción
La forma del cuerpo es parecida a la de un gusano. El tamaño de los animales vivos es de aproximadamente 1,5 mm. El cuerpo es de color blanco con un patrón naranja distintivo que consiste en una amplia franja horizontal, situada detrás de la cabeza y que rodea todo el cuerpo, y una franja longitudinal separada dispuesta en el lado dorsal posterior. La región de la cabeza está algo deprimida lateralmente. Una luz fuerte permite ver los ojos pequeños (profundamente incrustados en el cerebro cefálico), un par de estatocistos y la espículas densamente dispuestas. Estas espículas son ligeramente curvadas y verrugosas, su longitud varía de 90 a 120 μm, aunque típicamente miden entre 100-115 μm. No hay cabeza ni pie declinados. Tiene una glándula adhesiva en la parte posterior ventral del cuerpo.

Biología
A pesar de que esta especie parece un turbelario a primera vista, se pueden distinguir porque tiene un movimiento bastante lento y porque pueden contraerse fuertemente cuando se los molesta. Habita en el submareal poco profundo con algas verdes y, a diferencia de otras especies verdaderamente intersticiales, tiende a moverse hacia la luz en lugar de esconderse de ella. Los especímenes utilizados para la descripción original se obtuvieron dragando sobre grava conchífera (“sable de amphioxus”) a unos 25 m de profundidad e inspeccionando cuidadosamente las muestras.

Especies similares
Mientras que el color principal de esta especie (cuerpo blanco con patrón naranja) es compartido con varias otras especies de Rhodope, Rh.roskoi difiere de todas las demás en la forma del patrón naranja y en la disposición de las espículas, más densas que en otras especies, si bien las espículas en sí son similares a las de la especie tipo del género. Haszprunar y Heß (2005) presentaron una descripción general de todas las especies de Rhodope conocidas (algunas sin nombre asignado), con un dibujo esquemático del patrón naranja para facilitar futuras identificaciones.

Etimología

• Rhodope. Del griego antiguo “Ῥοδόπη” ‎(Rhodópē), una de las 3.000 oceánidas, ninfas acuáticas hijas de los titanes Océano y su hermana-esposa Tetis.
• Roskoi. Recibe su nombre del nombre bretón de Roscoff (Rosko).

Distribución
Las especies de Rhodope se han encontrado típicamente en el Atlántico nororiental durante estudios de la meiofauna (Swedmark 1958; Karling 1966; Haszprunar y Heß, 2005). La especie original fué descrita en Roscoff (Bretaña, Francia) en 2005. También hay una cita de 2024 en Granada, España, en el Mediterráneo.
