Descripció
La forma del cos és semblant a un cuc. La mida dels animals vius és d’uns 1,5 mm. El cos és de color blanc amb un dibuix taronja diferent que consisteix en una faixa horitzontal ampla després de la regió cefàlica, que envolta tot el cos, i una franja longitudinal separada, ubicada a la part dorsal posterior. La regió del cap està una mica deprimida lateralment. Una llum forta permet veure els ulls petits (profundament incrustats al cervell cefàlic), un parell d’estatocists i les espícules, disposades densament. Aquestes espícules són lleugerament corbes i verrugoses, la seva longitud oscil·la entre 90 i 120 μm, normalment entre 100 i 115 μm. No hi ha cap i peu declinats, però sí hi ha una glàndula adhesiva a la part posterior ventral del cos.

Biologia
Tot i que aquesta espècie sembla un turbel·lari a primera vista, es poden distingir perquè es mouen bastant lentament i perquè es poden contraure molt quan se’ls pertorba. Habita en zones submareals poc profundes amb algues verdes i, a diferència d’altres espècies instersticials autèntiques, tendeix a pujar a la llum, en lloc d’amagar-se’n. Els exemplars utilitzats per a la descripció original es van obtenir dragant sobre grava de conquilles (“sable de amphioxus”) a uns 25 m de profunditat i inspeccionant detingudament les mostres.

Espècies semblants
Mentre que el color principal (cos blanc amb patró taronja) es comparteix amb diverses altres espècies de Rhodope, Rh.roskoi es diferencia de totes les altres pel patró taronja diferent i les espícules més densament disposades, tot i que les espícules en si són similars a les de l’espècie tipus del gènere. Haszprunar i Heß (2005) van presentar una visió general de totes les espècies de Rhodope amb nom (i algunes sense nom), amb un dibuix esquemàtic del patró taronja per tal de facilitar identificacions futures.

Etimologia

• Rhodope. Del grec antic “Ῥοδόπη” ‎(Rhodópē), una de les 3.000 oceànides, filles de les nimfes d’aigua dels titans Oceanus i la seva germana-esposa Tetis.
• Roskoi. Rep el nom del nom bretó de Roscoff (Rosko).

Distribució
Les espècies de Rhodope s’han trobat típicament a l’Atlàntic nord-oriental mentre es realitzaven estudis meiofaunals (Swedmark 1958; Karling 1966; Haszprunar i Heß, 2005). L’espècie original va ser descrita l’any 2005 a Roscoff (Bretagne, França). També hi ha una cita de 2024 a Granada, Espanya, a la Mediterrània.
