Aplysia dactylomela és una espècie Atlàntica, mentre que
Aplysia argus (Rüppell & Leuckart, 1828), és el nom vàlid més antic pels exemplars Indo-Pacífics. La qüestió era determinar l’espècie dels exemplars mediterranis. Un cop més, segons el treball de Valdés et al. 2013 –

Descripció
Aquesta espectacular espècie de llebre de mar pot arribar a una mida de 40 cm de longitud. El cos d’aquesta espècie és gruixut, amb els paràpodes ben desenvolupats i que es troben lliures a la part posterior, cobrint totalment el dors de l’animal. El color de fons del cos va des del castany clar o fosc al verd groguenc o verd oliva sobre el qual es troben nombrosos anells de pigment negre, de diferents mides, que fan a l’espècie inconfusible. També solen existir línies negres fines o gruixudes, de vegades discontínues, que partint dels anells poden confluir entre elles, aquestes línies poden ser molt més abundants en la vora externa dels paràpodes. La cara interna dels paràpodes sol tenir taques fosques, gairebé negres i molt amples, que irradien des de la massa visceral cap a la vora dels paràpodes. Els tentacles orals estan molt ben desenvolupats i són eixamplats i foliacis. La zona dorsal del mantell també sol tenir taques fosques grans com les de l’interior dels paràpodes. El sifó anal està molt desenvolupat. Els rinòfors, com en les altres espècies de llebres de mar, són auricul·lats. El solc espermàtic és molt visible i es distingeix com una línia fosca que va des de la vora anterior dreta del mantell, fins a una mica més endavant del rinòfor del mateix costat. El conquilla està completament coberta pel mantell dorsal i no hi ha foramen dorsal. El peu és ample i de color una mica més fosc que el cos.
Biologia
Aplysia dactylomela viu en fons soms rocosos o sorrencs o en tolls intermareals amb abundància d’algues. També ha estat observada a més profunditat, fins a 40 m. Com totes les llebres de mar és de règim herbívor i té una gana molt voraç, alimentant-se d’un ampli espectre d’algues vermelles dels gèneres Corallina, Laurencia, Acanthophora, Centroceras i Gracilaria o algues verds com Ulva i Cladophora. A causa de l’estructura dels seus paràpodes, no fusionats per darrere, és capaç d’efectuar moviments de natació. Quan els espècimens son molestats poden segregar un fluid vermellós de caràcter defensiu produït per certes glàndules del mantell. Com totes les llebres de mar, és hermafrodita simultània i en el moment de la reproducció es poden unir diversos individus per copular en cadena. Les postes són en forma de cordó amuntegat amb infinitat d’ous que poden ser de color groc, rosat o violeta.
Etimologia
- Aplysia. Nom procedent del grec que significa brutícia.
- Dactylomela. Paraula composta de “Dactylo” de la paraula grega que significa “anell” i “Mela” de la paraula grega que significa “negre”: “Anells negres”.
Distribució
Tot i que es pensava que aquesta espècie tenia una distribució circumtropical molt ampla, havent estat citada en gairebé tots els mars d’aigües càlides o tropicals del món, segons el treball (Alexander & Valdés, 2013) les cites del Pacífic i l’Índic de A.dactylomela son en realitat d’A.argus. Així doncs, la distribució de A.dactylomela abarca des de l’arxipèlag de Cap Verd (d’on són els exemplars tipus de l’espècie), el Carib i tot el Golf de Mèxic, les costes de Florida, Bermudes, Bahames, Belize, Brasil, illes Canàries i Senegal. Recentment s’ha detectat a la Mediterrània, on ha estat citada a Israel, a l’illa de Malta, a Sicília, les illes Gregues i a Croàcia, on s’ha comprovat que es pot reproduir. Recentment ha estat trobada a Balears (Cap d’en Font, Menorca, 25/05/2016 per Joop Werson [GROC]) i a Catalunya (Cala Secains, Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona, 20/06/2016 per Xavier Salvador [GROC] i Es Caials, Cadaqués, Girona, 18/08/2016 per Àlex Bartolí) el que constitueixen les primeres cites per Espanya i Catalunya.
