Nota taxonòmica: Les espècies europees atlàntiques i mediterrànies dels gèneres Hypselodoris i Chromodoris, després de l´anàlisi molecular dels Chromodorididae de Johnson & Gosliner (2012, Traditional Taxonomic groupings mask evolutionary history: A molecular Phylogeny and new classification of the chromodorid nudibranchs. PLoS ONE 7 (4): 33479) s´han inclòs en els gèneres Felimare Ev. Marcus & Er. Marcus, 1967 (les espècies d´Hypselodoris) i Felimida Ev. Marcus, 1971 (les espècies del gènere Chromodoris).

No obstant això, un estudi recent de Matsuda i Gosliner (2017) va emprar anàlisis filogenètiques moleculars per investigar les relacions dins de la família Chromodorididae. La seva investigació va revelar que Felimida edmundsi s’agrupava en un clade diferenciat juntament amb Felimida dalli i Doriprismatica sedna, el qual està millor representat pel gènere Chromolaichma. Com a conseqüència, Felimida edmundsi va ser reclassificada com a Chromolaichma edmundsi per reflectir aquests resultats filogenètics.

Descripció
El cos és allargat i predominantment blau grisós, esquitxat de taques negres irregulars i nombroses taques taronges circulars petites, cadascuna envoltada per altres més petites de color groc. La vora del mantell és prominent, lleugerament plegada i adornada amb un marge taronja interromput per taques blanques, que corresponen a les formacions subepidèrmiques característiques dels cromodòrids. La superfície dorsal del mantell està coberta de nombroses petites protuberàncies. El peu s’estén més enllà de la vora posterior del mantell i presenta una línia taronja distintiva al llarg del seu marge posterior. Els rinòfors perfoliats, de color blau grisós, tenen entre 17 i 19 làmines i estan marcats per tres línies taronges prominents que convergeixen a l’àpex. El plomall branquial pot estar compost per fins a 30 brànquies, els extrems posteriors de les quals es corben en espiral. Aquestes brànquies són de color grisós translúcid i presenten una pigmentació taronja als marges intern i extern del raquis prop dels seus extrems. Tant els orificis rinofòrics com els branquials estan vorejats de color taronja. La papil·la anal és blau grisosa, amb l’orifici de color crema.

Biologia
Es desconeixen detalls de la seva biologia, ja que és una espècie dificil de veure. Alguns autors opinen que és la mateixa espècie que Felimida ghanensis.

Etimologia

• Chromolaichma. Derivat del grec “chróma” (χρώμα), “color”, i “aichmí” (αιχμή), “llança”, amb el significat de “punta de llança acolorida”, en referència als colors brillants dels animals vius i a la ràdula allargada en forma de llança; la lletra “l” es va afegir per eufonia.
• Edmundsi. En honor del Dr. Malcolm Edmunds, investigador britànic sobre els opistobranquis a la Universitat de Central Lancashire (Regne Unit).

Distribució
De moment ha estat trobada a la Macaronesia (Illes Canàries, Madeira, Açores…) i a São Tomé i Príncipe.
