Descripció
La longitud dels exemplars adults pot arribar als 20 mm. El cos és estret i de color molt variable. Hi ha espècimens completament pàl·lids (sense taques ataronjades o grogues) i també exemplars amb taques taronges o grogues difuses, però, mai tenen marques o ratlles de color taronja o groga a la cua (típiques d’A farrani), però sí que poden tenir una línia mitjana blanca a la cua. El dors del cos i els cerata poden estar parcialment o gairebé completament coberts amb grans taques grisenques, marrons o negroses. Altres exemplars poden tenir el cos i els cerata completament coberts de color ataronjat o groc daurat. Els rinòfors són llisos i mesuren de 1.5 a 2 vegades més que els tentacles orals. La part superior dels rinòfors i els tentacles orals apareix habitualment coberta de pigment taronja o marró groguenc, amb petites taques blanques disperses que mai formen un anell rosat; ocasionalment, tota la superfície dels rinòfors i dels tentacles orals apareix coberta d’un pigment taronja groguenc o marró. Hi ha 7-8 grups de fins a 3 cerates al llarg de cada costat de el cos. Cada cera és relativament llarga i d’aspecte inflat, amb l’extrem distal habitualment cobert de pigment taronja o groc, que si està absent permet veure el cnidosac interior, però mai tenen un anell subapical rosat, típic de A.viriola. El peu és estret, sense palps ni angles propodials, i sense una línia blanca puntuada al llarg de les vores, típica de A.linensis.

Es pot separar d’altres espècies del gènere pels següents trets:

  • L’absència de coloració taronja-groga en forma de taques, presents en A.farrani.
  • La presència de formes amb pigmentació de superfície fosca en el cos i cerata, absents en A.farrani.
  • L’absència d’una línia blanca puntejada característica al llarg de la vora de el peu, típicas de A.linensis.
  • Menor nombre de files de cerata i cadascuna amb l’extrem rom, no apuntat com seria típic de A.linensis.
  • Major mida de les taques dorsals (en les formes tacades) que A.pallida.
  • Menor nombre de files de cerata anteriors que A.pallida.

Biologia
A la costa occidental de Suècia aquesta espècie viu per sota de l’haloclina, però en altres àrees es pot trobar més a prop de la superfície o fins i tot a l’intermareal. A la Mediterrània es troba des d’aigües poc fondes (0-0,5 m) fins a uns 20 m.

Etimologia

  • Andra. De la paraula sueca que significa “segon” o “l’altre” referida a la seva separació de Amphorina viriola.

Distribució
Present a tota la Mediterrània i en totes les costes atlàntiques europees, des de Noruega a Gibraltar.
