Descripció
Cos relativament curt i ample. Adults amb una longitud total d’uns 6 mm (Martín-Hervás et al., 2024). La coloració general del cos és ataronjada, amb papil·les blanques opaques a les vores dels parapodis. Els parapodis són grans i s’estenen fins a l’extrem posterior del cos, amb vores ondulades. També es presenten alguns punts blancs dispersos al cap i els costats dels parapodis. La glàndula digestiva és visible a través de la pell com un pigment verd fosc. Els ulls són petits i estan ubicats darrere dels rinòfors. Els rinòfors són relativament llargs, enrotllats i del mateix color que el cos. La zona pericàrdica és petita amb petites taques blanques brillants. No s’observa ramificació dels “vasos” dorsals. La sola del peu no està clarament delimitada i l’extrem posterior del cos és rom, sense una cua aparent.
Biologia
Els exemplars utilitzats per descriure l’espècie es van trobar a la zona infralitoral a 6 m de profunditat. La seva coloració ataronjada és única entre les espècies d’Elysia atlàntiques, i pot tenir una funció críptica al seu hàbitat. La visibilitat de la glàndula digestiva a través del cos translúcid suggereix una dieta rica en algues verdes. Els parapodis probablement tenen un paper en la respiració, facilitant l’intercanvi de gasos a través de la seva fina capa epitelial.
Etimologia
- Azorica. Es refereix al lloc de recollida del qual es van trobar exemplars originals (Ihla do Faial, Açores) i és un adjectiu femení llatí en concordança de gènere amb el gènere [sic].
Distribució
Fins ara aquesta espècie només es coneix de les Açores (Atlàntic nord-oriental), Praia de Porto Pim, Ihla do Faial. Cal més treball de camp per determinar el seu rang de distribució i les possibles interaccions amb espècies simpàtriques. Els exemplars mediterranis actualment identificats com a Elysia flava (una espècie de l’Atlàntic occidental) s’haurien de comparar genèticament amb aquesta nova espècie.
