Descripció
Cos una mica cilíndric i allargat, amb una conquilla interna i membranosa, dividit en un escut cefàlic anterior i un gep visceral posterior, parcialment coberta pel mantell. L’escut cefàlic té la vora anterior més àmplia i més o menys bilobul·lada, i ocupa els dos primers terços de la longitud total del cos. Pot arribar a assolir una longitud màxima de 33 mm (Sammut & Perrone, 1998) però la mida habitual està entre 10 i 20mm. El patró de coloració pot ser molt variable: alguns exemplars són de color negre vellutat o marró fosc amb reflexos blavosos, esquitxat de punts de color blanc daurat o ataronjat, mentre que altres exemplars són de color marró òxid amb punts grocs molt fins. En qualsevol cas, tots tenen una marca en forma de “W” en la vora anterior del cap, així com una taca de color blanc o crema a l’extrem posterior de l’escut cefàlic, i també tenen cinc punts de color taronja a la part anterior del cap. Una sèrie de pèls sensorials situats a la part anterior del cap, més densos en dues prominències situades als costats de la boca, li permeten detectar les seves preses. Dos ulls rodons i negres poden ser clarament visibles, o no, en la vora anterior del cap, entre els dos lòbuls cefàlics. El peu s’expandeix lateralment en dos parapodis llargs i simètrics, de forma arquejada i amb una coloració similar a la del cos, sense pigmentació blanca, i que es pleguen cobrint parcialment el dors de l’animal. La part inferior del peu també té un color similar. El mantell té una fina línia blanca al marge posterior, amb un flagel llarg a la banda esquerra i un flagell curt en el costat dret.
Biologia
Segons Marshall & Willan (1999) prefereix zones arenoses amb acumulacions de restes d’algues, des del límit de la marea baixa fins a profunditats de 20 m. De costums nocturns, es troba tant en zones protegides com a zones exposades. A la Mediterrània s’ha trobat molt rarament, generalment en hàbitats rocosos amb poblacions d’algues fins a 12 m de profunditat. Probablement s’alimenta de poliquets o petites planàries acel·lomades que se suposa que absorbeix molt ràpidament. La posta és un cordó que forma agrupacions irregulars de mida petita. La coberta enganxosa dels ous pot captar detritus de l’entorn per al seu reforç i camuflatge. L’eclosió té lloc al cap de quatre dies (en condicions de laboratori).
Etimologia
- Biuve, per la presència d’una marca amb forma de “W” a la regió cefàlica. Del Llatí “bi”, dos i “uve” per la denominació castellana de la lletra “v”.
- Fulvipunctata. Del Llatí “Fulvi”, ros, amb cabell groc + “Punctata”, del Francès “ponctuée”, del Llatí “punctatus”, motejat, amb punts. Amb punts grocs.
Distribució
Àmpliament distribuïda pel Indo-Pacífic ja que està present al Japó, Hawaii, Filipines, Indonèsia, Papua Nova Guinea, Austràlia, Nova Zelanda, Polinèsia Francesa, Illes Marshall, Reunió, Vanuatu, Mèxic, Sud-àfrica i Moçambic. També està present a la Mediterrània, on hi ha molt poques cites confirmades: port de Selimiye, Antalaya, Turquia com a Chelidonura mediterranea (Swennen, 1961), Israel (Mienis and Gat, 1987), Malta (Perrone and Sammut, 1997), Xipre ( Tsiakkiros and Zenetos, 2011), Itàlia (2015), França (Horst, 2015) i Menorca, Illes Balears, Espanya (Karachle et al., 2016). Totes com a Chelidonura fulvipunctata. Aquesta gran dispersió geogràfica, juntament amb la gran diversitat de patrons cromàtics, suggereix que estem davant de diverses espècies dins del mateix gènere, tot i que calen estudis moleculars per poder certificar aquesta hipòtesi.
