Descripció
Cos alt i relativament curt, de color blanc hialí amb diverses taques rosades al dors, les dues més grans situades just darrere de cada rinòfor i una altra taca gran darrere de la brànquia, a l’àrea anal. El dors és llis. Cap amb vel amb quatre llargs apèndixs grocs amb puntes blanques. Hi ha de set a nou papil·les curtes a cada costat del cos, a la vora del notum. Brànquia formada per cinc fulls blancs amb puntes grogues. Els tentacles orals són curts i de color blanc. Cua blanca amb una línia groga.

Biologia
Molt semblant a l’Okenia amoenula, descrita per Bergh (1907) i Gosliner (1987) de color carmesí i groc, i MacNae (1957) com a vermell “totxo” i groc, mentre que Okenia hispanica és de color rosa i groc. Ambdues espècies poden distingir-se per l’estructura del sistema genital i per l’anatomia radular. També es pot confondre amb l’Okenia mediterrania, però aquesta espècie té una filera de tubercles al dors en els exemplars adults i també difereix per l’anatomia radular.

Etimologia

• Okenia. Dedicada al Prof. Dr. Ludwig Gilbert Lorenz Oken, (1779-1851), filòsof natural alemany, editor de la revista d’història natural “Isis” i que va publicar el conegut “Lehrbuch der Naturgeschichte” (Llibre de text d’historia natural). La seva nomenclatura no és binomial, així que els noms en el volum 3 (la part de zoologia) no s’utilizen a nivell de nomenclatura.
• Hispanica. D’Espanya. Hispania és el nom llatí d’Espanya.

Distribució
Aquesta espècie es va descriure a partir d’un exemplar recollit al mar d’Alboran, sobre pedres a 60 m de profunditat.
