Descripció
Quan estan completament estesos els animals poden tenir fins a 8 mm de longitud i son allargats, en canvi quan estan en repòs el seu contorn pot ser quasi circular y presentar la meitat de la seva mida. El color general és verd fosc. En moviment els animals diferencien clarament la regió cefàlica que presenta un lòbul oral arrodonit, de la resta del cos; ambdues regions separades per una mena de solc. Els rinòfors son molt curts i auriculats i tenen els ulls en la base i en el centre d’una petita ària despigmentada. El dors de l’animal esta mancat de qualsevol tipus d’expansions i de la seva zona anterior sobresurt lleugerament la regió cefàlica. El color general del cos i la regió cefàlica és verd clar tot i que està esquitxat per nombroses taques verd fosc que proporcionen un to fosc en tot l’animal. Els rinòfors solen ser més clars que la resta del cos. En el dors poden observar-se en ocasions petites puntuacions de color carmí i taques blanques en els marges del cos formades per cúmuls de granulacions blanques.

Biologia
Aquesta espècie esta estretament associada a l’alga clorofícia Halimeda tuna sobre la que sol viure i de la que s’alimenta. El saccoglos “roba” de l’alga els cloroplasts i els incorpora als seus teixits on son funcionals durant un temps, fotosintetitzant molècules orgàniques. L’abundància de cloroplasts en els teixits de Bosellia mimetica li proporciona una tonalitat verdosa quasi idèntica a la de l’alga cosa que la camufla perfectament sobre Halimeda tuna i a més, els productes fotosintetitzats per els cloroplasts li serveixen d’aliment. Les postes d’aquesta espècie tenen forma de cordó disposat en una espiral molt atapeïda i de moltes voltes, amb ous blanquinosos. Les postes solen dipositar-se sobre la mateixa alga Halimeda tuna o sobre la també clorofícia Flabellia petiolata.

Etimologia

• Mimetica. Derivada de Llatí “mimus”, significa mim, pantomima, bufó, però també imitador. Relacionat amb la capacitat d’aquesta espècie per confondre’s amb el substrat.

Distribució
Aquesta espècie és molt freqüent en tot el Mediterrani occidental però també és present en les costes orientals de Grècia i Croàcia. L’espècie també ha estat localitzada en les costes tropicals de l’Atlàntic occidental, des de Florida fisn el nord de Brasil. En les costes catalanes es pot trobar en tot el litoral sempre associada a l’alga Halimeda tuna. Una troballa registrada per en Roger Punsola a Mataró a l’octubre de 2024 es va fer sobre Flabellia petiolata.
