Descripción
Esta especie de cefalaspídeo puede alcanzar unos 25 mm de longitud en extensión (Gofas et al. 2001), aunque en la mayoría de las observaciones en el campo los animales miden entre 10 y 15 mm. Como en otros miembros de la familia, el cuerpo diferencia el escudo cefálico anterior, el manto, los parápodos que recubren lateralmente a las dos zonas anteriores y el pie. El color de fondo del cuerpo es pardo oscuro homogéneo aunque se aprecian puntuaciones blancas muy finas que tienden a concentrarse más en la zona posterior del escudo cefálico formando una banda ancha. También puede haber acúmulos de puntuaciones blancas en la zona del manto. Algunos ejemplares pueden tener tantas puntuaciones blancas que parecen ejemplares albinos. El escudo cefálico es algo más de la mitad que la longitud total del cuerpo y en su borde frontal diferencia 4 haces de sedas sensoriales. Los ojos se aprecian en el dorso anterior del escudo cefálico. La parte posterior del manto diferencia dos lóbulos caudales, siendo el izquierdo más largo que el derecho y acaba en una punta afilada, lo que da nombre al género. Los parápodos están bien desarrollados, son del mismo color que el cuerpo y su borde superior es naranja o amarillento. En las paredes laterales de los parápodos hay manchas azul turquesa de contorno redondeado que también pueden apreciarse en los lóbulos posteriores del manto y en la cola. Las zonas anteriores del escudo cefálico suelen estar despigmentadas y son semitransparentes.

Biología
C. africana vive a poca profundidad en substratos rocosos ricos en algas e invertebrados, ente los que pasa fácilmente desapercibida. También se ha citado en praderas de Posidonia oceanica (Marín, 1988). Como otras especies de la familia, se trata de un voraz depredador que se ha comprobado se alimenta de pequeños turbelarios marinos. Esta especie ha sido citada frecuentemente bajo el nombre de Chelidonura italica Sordi, 1980, que es considerada actualmente sinónima de C. africana.

Etimología

• Camachoaglaja, en honor de la Dra. Yolanda Camacho-García por sus estudios sobre la filogenia de los gastrópodos de la familia Aglajidae y por ser la primera en revelar la existencia de este clado de especies exclusivamente atlánticas.
• Africana. Relacionado amb África, donde se debieron recolectar los primeros ejemplares.

Distribución
Esta especie se ha citado en el Mediterráneo occidental, en las costas atlánticas del norte de África, en las Azores, Canarias y en Madeira. En la Península Ibérica se ha observado en las costas de Portugal, la zona del Estrecho de Gibraltar, en las costas mediterráneas de Andalucía, en la zona levantina y en Catalunya, donde se ha observado en Cadaqués, L’Escala y Cala Margarida.
