Description
A small-sized aeolid nudibranch, with specimens reaching up to 1 mm in length according to the original description based on type material (Fernández-Simón et al., 2025). However, subsequent observations indicate that it may reach sizes on the order of 6–7 millimetres. The body is pale whitish and translucent, with abundant bright opaque white spotting distributed over the tegument. The oral veil is oval in shape, described as “mushroom-shaped”, with a characteristic anterior white band, behind which the eyes can be seen by transparency. The rhinophores are short, smooth, cylindrical, and whitish, with scattered white spotting. The cerata are few and arranged in up to four lateral pairs, with the first pair reduced or absent; the remaining ones are clavate and transparent, showing the internal light brown digestive gland, and exhibit accumulation of white pigment at the tips. The cerata reach approximately 0.3 mm in length.

Biology
The species has been observed crawling over sand grains, confirming its mesopsammic or interstitial lifestyle. It has also been documented as part of the trophic network, serving as prey for other nudibranchs, specifically Facelina vicina (see Litoral de Granada).

Etymology

• Embletonia in honor to Denis Embleton, a victorian anatomyst at the Newcastle University.
• Mediterranea. From Latin “médium”, middle, intermediate space, center + “terra”, land.

Distribution
This species is currently restricted to the Mediterranean region, with confirmed records from the coast of Granada (type locality) and Mataró (Catalonia), as well as from the French Mediterranean.

We have no known georeferenced records for the species: Embletonia mediterranea.
