Descripció
La mida dels exemplars d’aquesta espècie varia entre els 15 i els 35 mm, tot i que s’ha citat un exemplar de 50 mm de longitud. El cos és molt aplanat, una mica més estret a la zona anterior, és de contorn arrodonit o ovalat i té forma de fulla. La coloració és variable però en la majoria dels animals es poden apreciar bandes concèntriques de color verd sobre un fons blanc grisós. També són característiques les taques blanques constituïdes per agrupacions de puntuacions del mateix color i alineades en les bandes verdes o clares. El cap és petit i els rinòfors són de color verd, podent haver també en ells una línia clara, continuació de les del dors; els tentacles anteriors i els rinòfors estan enrotllats i davant d’ells hi ha els ulls. Els paràpodes estan molt poc desenvolupats i cobreixen completament la zona dorsal del mantell. La boca té un parell de tentacles orals curts. La conquilla és bastant aplanada, fràgil, translúcida i presenta estries de creixement.

Biologia
Es coneix molt poc de la biologia d’aquesta espècie que ha estat confosa durant molt de temps amb Petalifera petalifera. Els exemplars observats ho han estat sobre algues i fanerògames marines com Posidonia oceanica i Cymodocea de les que se suposa s’alimenten.

Etimologia

• Phyllaplysia. Del Grec “phyllon”, fulla + “aplysia”, esponja, bruticia.
• Lafonti. Dedicat a Alexandre Lafont, que va publicar sobre cefalòpodes al menys entre 1869 i 1871 i que possiblement sigui (o potser no) el mateix A. Lafont al qui se li va dedicar el briozou Savignyella lafontii (Audouin, 1826).

Distribució
Després de la seva descripció a la costa atlàntica francesa de la Badia d’Arcachon (Fischer, 1872) s’ha observat a l’Estret de Gibraltar i el Mar Mediterrani, també a Madeira i molt recentment a Tufia, Gran Canaria (3/09/2016, J.J.Calderín Peñate, com. pers.). Hi ha fotografies i cites d’aquesta mateixa espècie en l’Indopacífic (Filipines, Japó, Hawaii, Polinèsia francesa) que haurien de ser confirmades mitjançant anàlisis moleculars. A Catalunya ha estat observada a l’Illa Mateua, les Illes Medes i Cala Aiguafreda.
