Nota taxonòmica: Aquest nudibranqui aeòlid pertany a un gènere caracteritzat per presentar cerata disposats en arcs i rinòfors amb engruiximents característics. F. ghanensis destaca dins del gènere per posseir un minúscul estilet penial —inusual entre Favorinus—, juntament amb un patró cromàtic i una morfologia corporal constants que el diferencien d’espècies afins com F. branchialis i F. auritulus.

Descripció
Els exemplars oscil·len entre 1,5 mm i 16 mm de longitud. El cos és esvelt i s’estreny gradualment fins a una cua punxeguda. És translúcid, d’un color blanc grisenc, amb punts blancs iridescents dispersos pel dors, el cap, els tentacles orals i la cua. Els tentacles orals i les cantonades anteriors del peu comparteixen la mateixa coloració de base. Els rinòfors són de color porpra-marró o granat, amb la punta clarament esquitxada de blanc, i presenten tres petits engruiximents o “bulbs”. Aquests engruiximents poden ser poc evidents quan l’animal està completament estès. Els cerata són llargs, de gruix uniforme, disposats en arcs a la part anterior del cos i en fileres a la part posterior. Les seves parets són translúcides, deixant entreveure la glàndula digestiva interna, de color crema a marró amb taques porpra-marró, cosa que dóna als cerata un aspecte generalment fosc, de to marró porpra. Les puntes dels cerata són d’un color blanc translúcid, sovint amb petites glàndules blanques i punts blancs iridescents dispersos. Els cerata es poden autotomitzar molt fàcilment quan l’animal és molestat o manipulat. L’anus és cleiopròctic i es troba dins del segon arc ceratal al costat dret, mentre que l’obertura genital es troba niuada en el grup ceratal anterior dret.

Biologia
Aquesta espècie es troba principalment en comunitats incrustants (fouling), especialment en cascs de vaixells, arts de pesca i estructures portuàries. S’alimenta predominantment dels zoides del briozou Amathia verticillata, la qual cosa representa una desviació respecte a la norma del gènere, que s’associa més comunament a masses d’ous d’altres llimacs de mar. El comportament alimentari inclou succionar el contingut de tubs trencats del briozou, i el consum ocasional de ciliats sèssils com Vorticella i Stentor. Tot i mancar de cnidosacs visibles o de descàrrega de nematocists, F. ghanensis disposa de glàndules epidèrmiques defensives als cerata, i presenta autotomia com a resposta defensiva. La seva petita mida i estil de vida críptic podrien haver portat a una subestimació de la seva presència; tanmateix, la seva afinitat pels substrats artificials i els briozous invasius suggereix un potencial d’expansió relativament alt a causa del trànsit marítim.

Distribució
El seu rang de distribució conegut actualment inclou zones portuàries de l’Atlàntic oriental i del Mediterrani, sovint en hàbitats dominats per Amathia verticillata. Descrita originalment a Ghana (port de Tema) l’any 1968, ha estat registrada posteriorment a les Illes Canàries (Gran Canària, 1995), Tunísia (Llac de Tunis, 2003) i a la costa atlàntica del Marroc (Agadir, 2012).
